Born on 6 October 1941 in Forest Gate, London, Billy Murray is one of British cinema and television’s most recognisable character actors, with a career spanning more than six decades. Early Career
Murray’s screen career began quietly, with uncredited appearances in celebrated British films. He can be spotted as a borstal inmate in The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962) and as a thug in Performance (1970), two films now regarded as landmarks of British cinema. He built his reputation steadily through television, appearing in long-running series including The Professionals, Bergerac, and Minder, where he took on two separate roles across the show’s run.
