Ian Virgo is a British-American actor born on 5 May 1981 in Glendale, California. With a career spanning film and television on both sides of the Atlantic, he has built a reputation as a versatile character actor equally at home in gritty crime dramas and high-concept genre productions.

Rise of the Footsoldier

Virgo is perhaps best known to fans of this franchise for his portrayal of Jimmy Gerenuk, a role he has reprised across multiple films in the series. He first appeared as the character in Rise of the Footsoldier (2007), the landmark British crime film that dramatised the world of Essex gangland. He returned to the role in Rise of the Footsoldier 3: The Pat Tate Story (2017), cementing Gerenuk as one of the more recognisable supporting figures in the series.

Early Career and Breakthrough Roles

Before his association with the Footsoldier franchise, Virgo had already accumulated notable credits in major productions. He appeared in the acclaimed war film Black Hawk Down (2001), playing Waddell. These early roles placed him alongside some of the most respected names in contemporary cinema and television, and helped establish his credentials as a serious screen performer.

Further Film and Television Work

Beyond the Footsoldier films, Virgo has maintained a busy and varied career. His film credits include The Raven (2012), the horror anthology ABCs of Death 2 (2014), in which he played Fletcher in the “Capital Punishment” segment, Witchville (2010), and Tau (2018). On television, he has appeared in the BBC spy thriller Spooks, the period drama The Bastard Executioner, and Trinity, among other productions.

His ability to move between American and British productions reflects his transatlantic background, and his continued involvement in the Rise of the Footsoldier series speaks to the lasting appeal of his work within the franchise.
