About
Adapted from Kevin Sampson’s 1998 novel of the same name, Awaydays is the casuals-era counterpart to the ROTF universe. Set on the Wirral in the grim early years of Margaret Thatcher’s premiership, the film follows Carty (Nicky Bell), a young middle-class man drawn into a Tranmere Rovers firm called The Pack.

How it relates
Different club, different city, same world. Where the ROTF films are about violence and money, Awaydays is about adolescence, music and clothes. The post-punk soundtrack (Joy Division, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen), the Lacoste-and-Adidas terrace fashion, the Thatcher-era working-class despair – this is the cultural backdrop Carlton Leach‘s ICF years were set against, just transplanted from Upton Park to Prenton Park.
