Connection to Rise of the Footsoldier

The film that revived British hooligan cinema in 2004 and arguably made ROTF possible three years later. Danny Dyer fronts a Chelsea firm story but the template - working-class lads, rave culture, fashion, violence, money - is identical to ROTF. Tamer Hassan also stars, and joins ROTF in 2025's Ibiza.

About

The film that revived British hooligan cinema in 2004 and arguably made Rise of the Footsoldier possible three years later. Director Nick Love adapts John King’s novel about a Chelsea firm called the Headhunters and their rivalry with Millwall’s Bushwhackers. Danny Dyer fronts as Tommy Johnson, a young man hooked on Saturday violence.

Why it matters for ROTF

Without The Football Factory’s commercial success in 2004, the green light for Rise of the Footsoldier in 2007 would have been much harder to get. The film established that British audiences would still pay to see gritty terrace cinema in the 21st century, and that Danny Dyer / Nick Love / Roland Manookian were a bankable creative axis.
